Originating from Africa, particularly the West, the djembe is a percussion instrument played mainly with the hands.

It has a goblet-shaped wooden body, topped with a goat skin and ingeniously tensioned by a system of 2 metal rings on top and one lower ring connected by a long rope, allowing it to be tensioned and produce a perfect sound.

An essential instrument for dances and ceremonies in West Africa, it is accompanied by balafons, doum doums, tama, cora, or n'goni. The rest of the world discovered its fabulous properties in the 1950s with the peak of African ballets and later in the 1980s with the djembefola who popularized this instrument.

Among the greatest are Mamady Keita, Sékou Camara Cobra, Adama Dramé, and many others who will forgive me for not mentioning them. Our offered percussion instruments come from Ivory Coast and are made of Melina wood.
