Origin and history

White sage naturally grows in the arid regions of California and Northern Mexico.
It is central to the traditions of tribes such as the Chumash, Navajos, or Lakotas, who use it in spiritual and healing ceremonies.

In these practices, the smoke is used to ward off negative influences, purify spaces, and support mental clarity.

Fumigation involves gently burning a sage stick and diffusing its smoke in the space.

  1. Light the end of the stick with a candle or match.
  2. Gently blow out the flame to leave a smoldering ember.
  3. Move the smoke around the room, towards corners, around objects, or above you (with caution).
  4. Place the stick on a heat-resistant holder (shell, bowl, censer) and let it burn out naturally.

Useful materials: abalone shells, censers, sand, tongs.
